ZTE Grand X LTE Android Smartphone Launches in Europe This Summer

White label gadget maker ZTE is hoping to steal some of Samsung and HTC’s thunder this summer by announcing a new Android superphone of its own, the ZTE Grand X LTE.

Due to launch in Q3 of this year – that’s between August and October – the Grand X LTE is the most powerful smartphone from ZTE to date. We’ve become used to more affordable low-specced devices from them such as the Tania, Skate and Blade, but now it’s ready to unleash something for the power-hungry.

The Grand X LTE packs a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, the Qualcomm MSM8960, which also supports LTE (4G) connectivity on a single chip. We’re told that this phone is the first to offer LTE on a single chip, with the current breed of phones having a separate chip for LTE connectivity.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be ready to use right out of the box, with Google certification to give you access to Gmail, Google Maps and the Play Store for apps, music and videos. The user interface has been tweaked by ZTE, but by the looks of things it’s quite close to the look of stock ICS in regards to the launcher.

ZTE doesn’t explain the screen, although it looks to be around 4.3-inches in size and accommodates the three touch Android buttons at the bottom, rather than placing them outside of the screen and on the phone itself.

Dual HD cameras are located front and back, with a 720p camera on the front and an 8-megapixel 1080p camera on the back. The phone’s lifeline is a large 1900mAh battery, which will be tested to the maximum by 4G connectivity.

The phone launches in Europe later this year, although it’s not yet clear if we’ll get a HSPA version to suit our current network infrastructure, or if ZTE will launch the 4G model and hope that we get some 4G connectivity here soon. Pricing to be announced.
