YouView TV service splits with French manufacturer Technicolor

A disappointing blow for the upcoming YouView super-freeview service has come as French company Technicolor has unexpectedly pulled their television products from the service.

YouView looked to be really picking up steam with broadcasters and manufacturers keen to hop onboard the BBC-backed Internet Portal Television service which is scheduled to launch in 2012 – and recently got a massive push by bringing in “The Apprentice” overlord Sir Alan Sugar as its main marketing man and face of promotions. YouView will see the widest range of programming available both live and on-demand via a number of popular broadcasting networks.

The brief relationship saw Technicolor – the world’s third largest when it comes to units shifted – approaching the project with gusto, only to choose to part from YouView little over a month later without revealing its reasoning.

Fellow bloggers Pocket-Lint got the inside scoop from YouView who confirmed the split, but remaining optimistic they declare “They were one of seven manufacturing partners and Youview remains on track for a consumer launch in early 2012.”

No official statement or press release from YouView or Technicolor on the split as of yet.
