Windows Mango 7.5 Update released to 50% of all Phones

Windows Phone 7 running handsets are reportedly nearly 50% full of Mango goodness and the update to the latest 7.5 Mango Operating system is going well, according to Eric Hautala who is the General Manager of Customer experience engineering over at Microsoft.

The Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update started rolling out to Windows Phone devices last week and the progress has been good for Microsoft with nearly 50% of all Windows Devices now eligible to get the update.

Fans of the handsets have been waiting for some time to get the Mango update since its initial announcement early in 2011, and the first major update to the WP7 OS is something that takes the systems one step closer to its Android and iOS competition.

In the Microsoft Windows Phone blog Eric Hautala states that within the first 6 days of the rollout they had been experiencing great success; “Within the first hours of making it available, we saw successful updates in every country, on every carrier, and for nearly every Windows Phone model.”

This success has enabled the update to be put to a wider audience and to more handsets.

“The update success rates we’re seeing look so good we’ve decided to open the spigot ahead of schedule, and make Windows Phone 7.5 available to 50 percent of eligible customers starting right now.”

And to silence all of the people questioning the randomness of the Mango release schedule, Hautala writes;

“Put simply, it’s done totally at random, with absolutely no preference for carrier, model, or country. Random sampling is an important engineering technique to accurately measure quality and pinpoint issues early. In some cases, this can have interesting consequences: A family, for example, can have identical Windows Phones, yet only one phone might get an update notification.”

So if you don’t have the Windows Mango 7.5 Update yet don’t panic, it will be coming soon (or you can check out our “How to get Mango guide“) and if you are one of the lucky ones to receive the update then WoooHoo to You!
