Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Cyan update coming to all Nokia Lumia devices
So Microsoft has opened the lid on its Windows Phone 8.1 software update, and along with the announcement of two new Nokia smartphones that will come sporting the new operating system, MS and Nokia have also said that they will be launching the update to all Windows Phone 8 devices.
This means that any handset that runs the Windows Phone 8 operating system will be getting the 8.1 update, with all the features of the new OS, including the Siri like Cortana Voice control system.
Nokia, especially have promised that all its devices running WP 8 will be getting the update in the coming months, and that an over the air update will be landing on all devices starting in the summer.
However, users with the original line-up of Windows Phone 7 devices will be left in the lurch again, as with the update from WP 7 to WP 8 it’s not possible to go that far back. This includes
Windows Phone7.5 or 7.8 handset like the Nokia Lumia 900, Lumia 800, Lumia 710, Lumia 610, Samsung Focus S or HTC 7 Mozart you won’t be getting the update.
The only issue for us Brits is that the touted flagship feature on 8.1, Microsoft’s Cortana voice assistant will not hit the UK until late 2014, but it will roll-out in beta in the US this summer.
It’s good to know that Nokia are not repeating their early mistakes, and are bringing the latest OS to all of its newer devices.
