Today’s Nintendo Direct will focus on Wii U and 3DS games for 2013

Nintendo will be hosting another one of its global Nintendo Direct showcases today where the company will show off some of what it has been working on recently and possibly give us an update on new/existing games on the Wii U and 3DS.

The Wii U and 3DS have been confirmed to be the focus for the event today and in the warm-up Nintendo has promised some “details about previously announced games”. The video feed will kick off at 4:00 p.m CEST in Europe or 7:00 a.. Pacific in North America as well as being shown in Nintendo’s native Japan.

Nintendo of America has confirmed via Twitter that the event will cover “games launching this year,” so we would expect Nintendo to be setting up for its end of year Christmas run with a host of family-friendly games.

Some of the games that Nintendo has already confirmed for the Wii U and 3DS to be released this year are: The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Super Mario 3D World, so a decent selection of big games for 2013.

But with two consoles and a very competitive Q4 – the PS4 and Xbox One will both be launching – coming up, Nintendo will need to step up its quality games output to keep up with the other next generation consoles.

Last week the Walmart-owned Asda supermarket chain revealed that it will no longer be stocking the Nintendo Wii U in its stores due to poor sales. Hopefully Nintendo can pull the rabbit out of the hats by the end 2013 to change Asda’s mind.
