Sony release waterproof Walkman MP3 Player

  • by

Sony has released a new washable and waterproof MP3 Player aimed at the sporty types out there.

The catchy titled NWZ-W260 is a completely wireless MP3 player which takes the same design as most Bluetooth headphones with the headband. Sony has cleverly built in the MP3 player and controls into two small blocks on each ear which are then linked to an in-ear headphone on each side.

Aimed at athletes and gym types, this walkman is resistant to any sweat you may build up through all that exercise. If you’re really forgetful and wear it into your post-gym shower, it’s waterproof enough to withstand that too. We wouldn’t recommend it of course, and wouldn’t wish to get shampoo or shower gel all over our new MP3 player, but Sony’s press release says it should be fine for showering.

With no cables and the MP3 part built in to the headband, there’s no screen for checking what song you’re listening to. Sony has solved this by adding the “zappin” song search, which is basically just a button which lets you skip to the next track.

Battery life is great with this Walkman with a three minute charge providing sufficient power for an hour’s listening – perfect for a quick charge before the gym.

The NWZ-W260 is available in gloss black and white and comes with approval from Great Britain’s finest athlete, Marlon Devonish.

“The Sports Walkman keeps me going through all of my workouts in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games,” he said.

“The sound is amazingly clear and helps get me ‘in the zone’ when I’m training, and I love that it’s both wireless and water-resistant so I never interrupt a training session.

We’ll see these waterproof beauties on UK shelves by the end of this month, pricing TBA.
