Skyrim: Dawnguard Trailer Revealed – Vampires, Crossbows and Dragons Galore

[tab name=’News’]

Already racked up over 50 hours of gameplay on Skyrim? Hoping to give it up sometime soon? Tough luck, as Bethesda has a monster expansion pack on the way called Dawnguard, and the first trailer has just dropped.

Skyrim: Dawnguard is the first major expansion for the hugely popular title, which is available on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. While the current map is vast to say the least, Bethesda wants to give its gamers even more to explore, along with new beasts and weapons.

The initial trailer gives us a teaser of the new additions. Vampires are one of the main additions to the game, and in the trailer we see a vampire castle and even our own character transforming into a vampire, which means that we could have the choice to continue our quest in vampire form.

By becoming a vampire we learn a new enemy: the Dawnguard. As the title of the expansion pack entails, the Dawnguard are a pretty big feature. The sworn enemy of the vampires, the Dawnguard are based in a new castle and will do everything in their power to swot out the blood-suckers.

If vampires aren’t quite exciting enough for you, it looks as though you’ll be able to take things a step further and become a ‘superpowered vampire’. These beasts gain wings and allow you to move at high speeds across the map – a sure-fire advantage over your trusty legs.

If Buffy the Vampire Slayer taught us anything, it’s that crossbows make darn good weapons for vampire slayin’. As such, the crossbow is a new weapon in the Dawnguard add-on, and you’ll be able to shoot it from horseback too. The trailer also reveals that a new horse can be found in Dawnguard, but it’s not your average horse. This one looks rather ghostly, made up of a skeleton and blue flames.

An Elder Scroll will play a key part in the latest quest, as signalled in the trailer by a mysterious character that carries the scroll on their back. Just what role the scroll will play in the game remains to be seen, but we’re excited.

A crazy-looking fanged ice creature and dragons that can battle underwater top off a trailer that is sure to send Skyrim fans into a frenzy. We’ll hopefully learn more about Dawnguard at next week’s E3 event, and we should see a launch later this summer.
