Secret Xbox 720 London Event Revealed By Crytek Employee On Twitter

  • by

One loose-lipped employee from Crytek has tweeted the secret codename for Microsoft’s next Xbox, which is apparently going by the name of Durango.

The Crytek developer was attending the ‘Durango Developers Conference’ in London and tweeted about it on Twitter. Sean Tracy, a technical designer for Crytek, tweeted: “Enjoying the Durango developers summit in London. So far, great swag and interesting talks”.

Since the tweet went out the games press jumped on it, declaring the secret conference as proof that Microsoft is indeed showing off the next Xbox.

The tweet has since been removed, adding even more fuel to the fire. Apparently Microsoft is currently undertaking a large-scale media operation, and with this tweet, suspicion has led to many thinking that the company could be preparing to soon reveal plans for projects beyond its current Xbox 360 system.

Lionhead, one of Microsoft’s subsidiary game studios, is apparently already at work on a next-generation project, and has begun a mystery seven-day countdown on its website.

The timer is set to run out during next week’s Games Developer Conference. In other related news, a pack of UK journalists have been invited to San Francisco to attend a behind-closed-doors Microsoft event.

These events could however be related to future Xbox 360 games such as Halo 4, or to hardware and software advancements such as cloud gaming technologies.

Crytek recently claimed that its CryEngine technology is already being used for various next generation game projects, so perhaps like Lionhead, the developer is also working on titles for Microsoft’s next generation console.
