Samsung Galaxy Nexus Ban Lifted with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update

[tab name=’News’]

Jelly Bean to save the day! Yes, Google’s latest Android operating system 4.1 is looking to be the hero (for Google and Samsung that is) in the ongoing legal battle between Apple and Google regarding patent infringements on the software, which has seen the Samsung Galaxy Nexus temporarily banned from sale.

Google’s flagship smartphone (it gets all the latest Android updates first) will be able to bypass the ban on the sale of the phone when the handset gets its latest OS update to Jelly Bean 4.1.

The ban itself has been enforced by the US Patents Court, and it revolves around the ‘quick search’ functionality on the Galaxy Nexus and is something that has been bouncing between courts since the phone’s launch, with Apple finally winning out last month and getting a US ban on the handset.

Google however have now given the Galaxy Nexus a reprieve, as the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has stated that the handset can go back on sale with the Ice Cream Sandwich software on it with the idea that all will be updated to Jelly Bean (less the quick-search feature).

Apple will have a chance to yet again appeal the decision and you can guarantee this will be the case for the California-based Company, but for the time being the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will see the harsh light of day.

Google has said that it hopes to have the Galaxy Nexus back on sale next week, with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a workaround for the software issue that infringes on Apple’s patent.
