It looks like Samsung’s Italian division has let the cat out of the bag regarding Ice Cream Sandwich updates, confirming in a blog post that the Android 4.0 will be coming to a series of Sammy products.
Italian Android site HDblog says that Samsung has recently confirmed which devices from their current portfolio will be eligible for the update to Ice Cream Sandwich, which will take place sometime in 2012. The devices are:
- Galaxy S2
- Galaxy Notes
- Galaxy Tab 10.1
- Galaxy Tab 8.9
- Galaxy Tab 7.7
- Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
From the devices listed this looks to be legit, as we wouldn’t expect any other devices to be updatable – these are Samsung’s top end devices.
HDblog anticipates that the update rollout should start early in Q2 of 2012, so starting April. Samsung are currently assessing the Android 4.0 software and their range of devices to make sure that the update will run as smoothly as possible.
While the list of devices makes sense and the possibility of an update to ICS is very exciting, please bear in mind that the source doesn’t quote a Samsung press release or any sort of official source. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one over the next couple of days.
The first device to hit the market running Android 4.0 will also be a Samsung device, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It features a 4.65-inch curved HD AMOLED screen, dual-core processor, 16 or 32GB of storage and a 5-Megapixel camera. The handset is launching in the UK on November 17th for £515.
