Samsung announce 3D on demand for Smart TVs

  • by

First there was TV on demand… Now there is 3D on demand!

Samsung has just released a 3D TV on demand service throughout Europe for their Smart TV range.

The 3D on demand service will be available through the Samsung Smart Hub under the app ‘Explore 3D’. Initially there will be around 20 different types of programmes including, films, music videos, children’s classics, documentaries and trailers. At the moment the only official partner is Dreamworks, however this will surely increase depending on the success of the service.

Andy Griffiths, Vice President of Consumer Electronics for Samsung UK said: “The demand for 3D is growing rapidly, but only a handful of channels are providing content. Samsung has led the 3D LED TV market since it launched last year, and the roll-out of our 3D video-on-demand service demonstrates our commitment to accelerating its growth.”

“We believe that in the near future every viewer will have access to 3D content in the comfort of their own living room through a Smart TV. We will therefore continue to develop our Smart TV offering in order to provide consumers with the best viewing experience possible.”

Explore 3D is a service that was specifically designed by Samsung, and it will run alongside some other apps on the Samsung Smart Hub such as Demand 5 (the on demand channel 5 app) and a good few Gameloft games.

Initially Samsung is hoping to have 70 free 3D videos available through its ‘Explore 3D’ App.

If you are lucky enough to have one of Samsungs Smart TV’s ranging from the entry level D5520 model trough to the flagship D8000 you can download the application from the Samsung app store.
