RIM re-brands BlackBerry App World as BlackBerry World ahead of BB10 release

With RIM’s big BlackBerry 10 launch just a week away, the company is setting in motion some of the changes needed for the OS, including a brand re-design that the company is hoping will turn around both its BlackBerry brand and its fortunes.

Today the company has made the first step by re-branding its BlackBerry App World as the new-fangled “BlackBerry World”, with the company dropping the phrase ‘App’ from its chief downloading platform. The new name signifies a change in the usage of the digital store, where the service will no longer be primarily for apps, but also for music and video content for the forthcoming BlackBerry 10 smartphones.

The company is currently in the final stages of preparation for its new OS and BlackBerry X10 and Z10 handsets which are due for release on January 30th, or shortly after.

The company announced that it has already had over 15,000 new BlackBerry 10 app submissions in just two days, and calls BlackBerry World “the one-stop shop for all of your mobile entertainment needs.”

What’s more; current BlackBerry users will see the changes to the BlackBerry App World in the next few days and will have access to the range of new services that will be on offer in time for the launch of BlackBerry 10.

RIM will surely have a few big name apps on the cards for the big release, especially as last year the company announced a partnership with music streaming service 7Digital, from which we are yet to see a product.

All we know right now is that RIM and its BlackBerry brand is ready to be announced on January 30th, but whether or not the product will be able to save RIM remains to be seen.
