o2 now include internet tethering with tariffs

  • by

O2 are now including internet tethering within their monthly tariffs, aimed at iPhone 4 users who wish to make use of the new tethering feature within iOS 4.3.

Until now, o2 customers would have to pay extra on top of their monthly bill for an ‘internet tethering bolt-on’, which was £15.

Customers will now be able to choose a basic tariff (comprising of call minutes and texts), then pick an internet bundle which best suits them to add on top. The internet bundle will be inclusive of both mobile browsing and tethering.

For instance, the “Basics Deal” will cost you £3 extra per month, and will give you 100MB of browsing and tethering data.  The “All-Rounder” will give you 500MB for £6 per month, and “The Works” will give you 1GB of data for an extra tenner a month. The All-Rounder and Works packages also give the customer unlimited access to o2’s Wi-Fi hotspot network.

Realistically, if you’re going to be using your iPhone for tethering data to other devices, you’re going to need the Works package. The All-Rounder may suffice for light browsing and very occasional tethering, but you’d have to keep an eye on your data counter.

Do you think o2’s new approach to tethering costs is better than the previous £15 cost for a bolt-on? Let us know via Facebook or Twitter.
