Nokia Offering Custom Tattooing on Lumia 710 Smartphones

  • by

Nokia is giving owners of its Lumia 710 Windows Phone the chance to get a custom design of their choice tattooed onto their shiny new gadget. You read that right, tattooed.

The Finnish manufacturer has teamed up with tattoo and airbrush artist Simon Templeman to offer the unique service, which Simon has developed himself using a finely-tuned airbrush to recreate the effect of a traditional needle and ink tattoo.

The Lumia 710 is already a great phone for those who like to customise their phone, with 5 different coloured back panels available to buy and swap with ease. The idea of tattooing your phone takes things to the next level, and takes us back to the good old days of buying new front and back covers for our Nokia 3310 from a knock-off market stall. We even had a see-through gel keyboard – flashy, we were.

You can come up with your own design to have tattooed onto the battery cover of your Lumia 710, and it can be pretty much anything – a design, name, logo, you name it. Simon charges from £40 for the privilege, though the cost may rise for more intricate, detailed designs.

Choose carefully however, as Simon points out the design will be on your phone permanently, just as with one of his tattoos.

Nokia says their new tattoo artist is even working on a new method of customising its phones, using a special laser technique to burn similar designs into smartphones. While the current airbrush/tattoo method will give a smooth and vibrant finish, we can imagine the laser technique carving your design out of the case, which could look brilliant when used on the colourful polycarbonate body of the Lumia 800 and 900.

“Deep gloss finishes and non-fading finishes” will last for years, says Simon’s company, I Aint No Saint Paint. The covers will soon be available in a variety of colours and with a design of your choice. If you’re interested, check out their website to get in touch.
