Nokia announces Lumia 620 – An “affordable” Windows Phone 8 smartphone
Nokia has today announced at the LeWeb Show in Paris a brand new Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphone called the Nokia Lumia 620.
Nokia seems to be running along the same handset schedule as the previous line-up of Lumia handsets, by announcing a budget Lumia 620 handset that mirrors the Lumia 610 that it launched with Windows Phone 7.5.
The Nokia Lumia 620 will be a budget version of the Windows Phone 8 sporting Lumia 820 and 920 and will feature some fair specifications to run the new OS. It will have a nippy 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 512MB of RAM, a 5-megapixel camera and all running on a decent size 3.8-inch display.
Nokia has classed the Lumia 620 as an affordable device in the Lumia range and they have said the 620 is “a more fun” handset with “youthful appeal, and a compact design.”
The handset will join the Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 with a similar design, but Nokia has also changed things up a bit with a new “Dual Shot Colour” technique that means you can add a second layer of coloured, transparent or translucent polycarbonate on top of a full colour layer to offer “blend and depth effects” which will give owners more control over how the Lumia 620 looks. This means the handset is sure to be a hit with younger fans as it adds another layer of customisation that other phones don’t have.
Additionally, the Lumia 620 will have a next-gen feature at its budget price with the inclusion of NFC wireless technology which means that the handset will be capable of wireless payment and instant wireless file sharing. Nokia has also announced that they will be partnering with JBL and other accessory makers so that they can provide a range of products and accessories that work with the Lumia 620, so that owners can tap-to-play music and make NFC payments in the future.
The Nokia Lumia 620 Windows Phone 8 smartphone will be available from January 2013 in lime green, orange, magenta, yellow, cyan, white and black, and will be priced at $249 in the US with sales also coming to Asia and the Middle East.
