New Star Wars Battlefront On The Way

Star Wars fever has gripped the internet, as not only have two new movies in the franchise, The Force Awakens and Rogue One, have been announced, but also because there’s a brand new Star Wars Battlefront game headed for consoles very soon.

For those of you who remember, Star Wars Battlefront was a lot like the older Battlefield titles, but of course with a Star Wars twist. The new version adds third and first person play, plus brings back all the action, including vehicles, that players of the original games have missed.

Patrick Bach, manager of DICE, the studio behind the new game, said in an interview that they would try to remain true to the original and the Star Wars source content as much as possible.

“The whole idea of building a Star Wars Battlefront game is about two things. First of all, it’s called Star Wars Battlefront for a reason, so [we’re] going back to the roots and the core ethos of that. And then on top of that, it’s Star Wars together with LucasFilm. So we have the opportunity to work with them on this; it’s a super tight relationship. We have daily contact with them–they approve everything, we discuss everything with them. It’s super tight.”

The game represents a new line of development for DICE, who make the similar Battlefield title, but have clearly stated that the new Star Wars battlefront is a brand new endeavor for the company and they’re going to build it from the ground up.

“In some ways you could argue it’s close to what we’ve done before–because it’s something awesome and people want that–but in other ways it was like no, let’s go down this route because it fits with the IP, it fits with what Star Wars stands for,” Said Bach.

Judging by what’s been promised for Battlefront, they could very well be right. The game has been slated to include 60fps visuals, destructible environments and many familiar locations and campaigns from the Star Wars series.

Of course, the option to play as unique heroes during the game also returns – Darth Vader and Boba Fett have already been revealed, but it’s likely we’ll see some of the older staples make an appearance too. The game is set to arrive on Xbox one, PS4 and PC on November 17th.
