Mark Zuckerberg Says No to Facebook Phone

Yesterday we reported that Facebook and HTC were reportedly working together to try and create a Facebook-specific smartphone to be released next year, but today Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has stated openly that this will not be happening.

Originally it was stated that Facebook would be working towards its own operating system for the a HTC phone and would be bypassing Android, Apple, and Windows to try and take its own share of the mobile OS market.

Whilst on a company’s future earnings call with investors regarding the social network’s first published financial results since going public, Zuckerberg stated that it ‘wouldn’t make sense’ to launch a phone.

Instead he said that Facebook needs to focus on improving its mobile apps and integration with all mobile devices:

“We want not just to have apps that people use, but be as deeply integrated as possible, where other apps can build on top of Facebook,”

Facebook (and other social networking sites) integration has been a major feature in the rise of the smartphone and trying to waste time and money in the competitive smartphone market may not be the best option for Zuckerberg and co.
