LG G Flex pre-orders open in the US – Launching in UK & Europe in February
LG’s first ever flexible smartphone, the LG G Flex, has officially gone up for pre-order in the US on the carrier AT&T starting from January 24th. The handset will then go on sale in the US a week later on the rival Sprint network.
However, in the UK and Europe we won’t be missing out for long as the smartly priced smartphone will also be hitting our continent in the coming months, too. LG announced that the G Flex would be going on sale across 20 European countries this February with countries like Austria, France, Germany, Italy and the UK all getting the handset.
There hasn’t been any confirmation on which networks will be supporting the Flex in each country but in the UK we already know the handset will be sold on the 4G EE network, though we would expect others to get involved too.
The LG G Flex is the first bendable, curved display handset to become available in the European market so interest in the Android smartphone is high. It features a 6-inch HD display with a curved screen that reportedly cuts down on glare and provides a more “cinematic” viewing experience in the process.
The handset is no slouch behind the screen either as the G Flex is powered by the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS (with 4.4 KitKat coming soon) and it runs off a nippy 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and has a decent 32GB of storage built in.
It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with a 2.1-megapixel front camera and a large 3,500 mAh battery. Size-wise it comes in at 177g in weight and is shaped to be 7.9mm – 8.7mm thick. Like the LG G2, its volume and power buttons are located on the rear of the device, just below the rear camera.
One of the more interesting features of the LG G Flex is that it comes with a special self-healing coating on the back of the handset, which will reportedly repair hairline scratches on the rear of the phone over time. This means that when the phone comes into contact with keys and coins in your pocket, those minor scratches disappear all by themselves.
The LG G Flex will be hitting the UK and Europe sometime in February, and in the US pre-orders are open from this week on AT&T.
