HTC Confirms Playstation Certification – Sony Classics Coming to Quad-core Edge Smartphone & More!

  • by

HTC has disclosed that its gadgets will be receiving a Playstation certification – meaning that a selection of classic Sony licenses should soon be appearing on devices such as the Flyer tablet, the Sensation smartphone and future quad-core beast, the Edge.

Sony’s plan is to widen the appeal of the Playstation brand and offer PSP and PS One content to beyond its current span and onto HTC’s Android-based mobile and tablet platforms. Making a move that Nintendo is reluctant to make, Sony will be the first to deliver downloadable editions of its familiar favourites to the ever-growing market for mobile gaming.

With Sony certification in place, we’re thinking of revival titles such as Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot and King of Fighters amongst many more that could be faithfully and feasibly translated to the mobile field on HTC’s current wave of gadgets. But let’s not forget the powerful 1.GHz HTC Edge looming on the horizon, which could prove a real game changer!

According to a fellow tech website which first broke the news, HTC plans to make the announcement official at one of this year’s big tech calendar dates. Most opportunely this would mean the Mobile World Congress, which is set for February 27th to March 1st in Barcelona with plans to get the Playstation/HTC union under way by the end of 2012.
