Google Nexus One gets Gingerbread 2.3.4 update

Google Nexus One owners will slowly be getting the latest Google Android 2.3.4 update that until now has been an exclusive Gingerbread version for the Nexus One’s younger sibling the Google Nexus S.

The 2.3.4 update will bring the new GTalk voice and video-chat capabilities to the Nexus S but unfortunately on the Nexus One it only brings bug fixes and tweaks to the Android OS, so for the original Google converts it’s a bit of a bum deal.

The download is being sent out in batches, but to manually download the update use the following steps:

How to manually update your Nexus One:

  1. Download the update file from Google.
  2. Rename it to Update.zip
  3. Move the file to your phone SD card.
  4. Switch Off, and reboot in Bootloader using Vol Up and Power button
  5. Choose recovery and when the triangle with exclamation mark appears, press power and vol up button at the same time
  6. Select “Apply Update.zip from SD card”
  7. Reboot and enjoy.
