Google Celebrates Mobile Milestones: Android Passes 1-Million Activations Per Day with 600,000 Apps Now Available

Google’s I/O Developer’s Conference this week showcased the upcoming Android OS update to version 4.1 Jelly Bean which is expected to go live in the next few weeks and come pre-loaded on gadgets such as the ASUS made Nexus 7 tablet and the next Samsung Galaxy Note smartphone. Google also took the time to mention that for the first time since its launch a little under four years ago the Android mobile software is enjoying daily activations of above one million.

With Google’s massively distributed mobile OS now running on more than 400-million devices in over 130 countries worldwide, this should really come as no surprise and Android is really putting the punch on super-brand Apple which itself has recently announce a new upgrade to its iOS software. With such a massive spread for Android which was boosted all the more with the feverish interest in most recent revision 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich of course the demand for apps is also very high.

Almost in the same breath as Google announcing it has introduced a number of brand new entertainment departments to its already busying Google Play store, they proudly report that the former Android Market has now hit the 600,000 apps mark – meaning that Google is closing the gap between itself and the Apple App Store which currently claims 650,000 are available to download on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Android boasts more than 20-billion total downloads since the market launched as a resource for apps the then new platform on October 23rd 2008.
