Foxconn Boss Goes on Record to Confirm an Apple HDTV is Coming

[tab name=’News’]

It’s been a little while since we’ve heard anything about the much-rumoured Apple HDTV, but now Foxconn founder Terry Gou has added fuel to the fire.

Foxconn already make Apple’s iPhones and iPads, and it now looks likely that it will play a big part in manufacturing Apple’s first smart TV, which many are dubbing the ‘iTV’ – of course, they can’t call it this, as it would conflict with the TV station of the same name.

Speaking at a conference this week in Shanghai, Mr Gou said that his company is making preparations for an Apple TV, though manufacturing is yet to begin, reports China Daily. They say that the ‘iTV’ reportedly features an aluminum construction along with features such as Siri and Facetime, although the latter two are most likely rumoured features and not confirmed.

It looks likely that Sharp will be the manufacturer of screens for Apple’s TV, opposed to Samsung, whom Apple has been embroiled in an ongoing series of legal spats over similarities between their mobile devices. Foxconn and Sharp have recently     begun a 50/50 joint venture, opening a factory in Japan, which may be used to create the TV.

Apple’s TV has been rumoured for some time now, with many expecting a Full HD set combined with the on-demand video features from the Apple TV streaming box and some features from iOS, such as Siri and Facetime.

U.S retailer Best Buy got Apple fans hot under the collar earlier in the year when it sent out a customer survey asking what customers what they thought about the product – the email was written in a very confirmative way, as if the company knew everything about the product already.

A HDTV would surely complete the Apple fan’s gadget dream, allowing them to wirelessly play files from an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Mac on their TV using AirPlay, as well as various other features. Would you buy one?
