Facebook iPad App to Launch at iPhone 5 and iOS 5 Event, October 4th

  • by

After a very long delay, we’re receiving reports that the official Facebook App for the iPad will be unveiled and ready to download at the same time that Apple announce the iPhone 5 and iOS 5.

News site Mashable claims that Apple will be announcing the Facebook App for iPad at their next media event, which many believe will take place on October 4th at Apple’s own Cupertino campus.

“Facebook will launch its long-awaited iPad app at Apple’s iPhone 5 launch event on Oct. 4, Mashable has learned. In addition to the iPad app, Facebook is also expected to release a revamped version of its iPhone app and may unveil an HTML5-based mobile app marketplace.” The site says.

We got a glimpse at what the Facebook for iPad App would be like earlier in the year, when the entire app was found within an update to the iPhone App and successfully ported onto the iPad and iPad 2 using Jailbreak methods.

An engineer at Facebook, Jeff Verkoeyen, who had been working on the Facebook iPad app for quite some time, recently quit the company to head to Google. In various interviews over the past few days, Jeff has confirmed that the Facebook for iPad App has been virtually finished since May and almost ready for release, though Facebook kept pushing back the official release. It was these delays that caused Verkoeyen to leave the company.

Mashable also reports that Apple may launch a completely revamped Facebook App for the iPhone at the same time.

Many expect the next generation iPhone, the iPhone 5, to be announced at Apple’s next big media event. We believe there will also be an upgraded version of the iPhone 4 unveiled at the event – the iPhone 4S – which will be designed to be sold on Pay as You Go and free on contract.
