Burnt-Out Samsung Galaxy SIII Was Actually Microwaved

Gadget lovers may recall the horrifying sight of an exploded and burnt-out Samsung Galaxy SIII recently, which may have led to deep concern about the latest and greatest smartphone.

S3 owners needn’t worry however, as Samsung have investigated the smouldering phone and found a rather amusing, if slightly odd, reason for the damage: the phone was cooked in a microwave.

Samsung carried out various tests as part of their investigation, and thankfully this wasn’t caused by the phone overheating or a manufacturing fault. The Korean manufacturer issued the following statement via its Samsung Tomorrow blog:

“The energy source responsible for generating the heat has been determined as external to the device” and “the device was not responsible for the cause of the fire.”

Continuing, Samsung explained, “The only way it was possible to produce damage similar to the damage recorded within the owner’s damaged device was to place the devices or component parts within a domestic microwave.”

Since this statement was issued, the owner of the phone retracted his or her claims that the phone exploded from various internet forums. They then posted a comment sticking the blame on another individual who was repairing the phone after it had been water damaged. It all seems rather fishy to us – why would you want to microwave your own beautiful and not to mention new and expensive, Galaxy SIII?

Perhaps the phone was in fact water damaged and the owner was trying to pull a stunt to get it replaced by Samsung. Either way, we’re sure they could have gone about it in a better way!

Hopefully this news will put S3 owners’ minds at rest, knowing that their phone isn’t actually likely to explode.
