Boy Better Know Launches Mobile Network – Grimey Data Plans From JME, Skepta and Co.

  • by

Great news for grime fans, as today UK Grime music group ‘Boy Better Know’ has launched their own mobile network, ya get me.

Backed by the likes of Wiley and JME, Boy Better Know Mobile is a MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator), meaning that they share their coverage with another larger network. In this case, BBKM is ‘piggybacking’ on Freedom Talk, who in turn share coverage with Three, thus giving their customers unrivalled 3G coverage across the country.

Founding member of the band and record label Jamie Adenuga, better known by his rap name of ‘JME’, has announced the new network through a video posted on the group’s website. It would appear that the video is made up of around 50 takes, which we’re not sure if it has been done for effect, or if JME fumbles his lines every 2 seconds.

Outtakes aside, Boy Better Know Mobile are offering you the chance to purchase a Pay As You Go SIM Card which will work in any unlocked phone. You can even get a Micro SIM for use in devices such as the iPad 2, or the iPhone 4S, which JME kindly shows us in the video. He even sets of Siri by mistake in the video, but hey! It doesn’t matter, as they left it in the video for your entertainment.

The SIM card costs £10 and comes with a nifty little SIM Wallet featuring the Boy Better Know logo emblazoned across it. There could be confusion with the SIM card however, as JME kindly points out in the video below. Though the SIM Card comes attached to a piece of plastic shaped like a credit card, be warned:

This is NOT a credit card fam.

To be fair to the network, the data bundles they’re offering aren’t too bad for a small network. The best deal out of the bunch is 18GB of data over the space of 6 months, giving you a 3GB limit per month for a top-up of £50.

You can also opt for 500MB, 1GB or 3GB of data per month by topping up £5, £7.50 or £12.50 respectively. If you were to top up 3GB each month for 6 months you’d be paying £75 over 6 months, so the £50 top-up is a steal.

On top of your data the call charges are a little pricier than most networks. Calls from to other mobiles are charged at 15p per minute, calls to landlines are 10p per minute and calls to other BBKM users are 2p per minute, which isn’t bad if all your mates are down with the kids and also use the network.

You can order your SIM from the Boy Better Know website now, and if you’re one of the first 100 customers you’ll secure a Boy Better Know t-shirt, which is probably pretty wicked.

Check the video below for more info on the network, as presented by Mr Outtake, JME himself.
