BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 Now Downloading on UK Tablets

If you’ve been waiting patiently for the major 2.0 software update to land for your BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet, now’s your time.

The update was rumoured recently to launch at 04:01am on February 21st, though the time zone wasn’t specified. However, we’ve just performed a software update check on our 16GB model and it’s found the update – Version 2.0.0.7971 – glorious!

UK PlayBook owners should now be able to download the update, though please make sure you’re connected to a decent Wi-Fi network with good signal strength, as the update file is pretty hefty at 404MB in size. If you’re not sure how to check for the update on your tablet, follow the procedure below:

Tap Settings Icon (top right corner of screen) > Tap Software Updates > Check for Update.

You should be prompted to confirm that you want to install the update, which of course you do. Once you’ve confirmed, it’s just a matter of waiting for the update to finish downloading, which if your Wi-Fi is as shoddy as ours is, it will take a while.

OS 2.0 is the first major update to the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, and it brings a host of new features, redesigned aspects, fixes and improvements. The major additions include native email and contact applications, so you’ll no longer need to bridge a BlackBerry Smartphone with the tablet in order to view your contacts or receive email.
