Blackberry Playbook approved for U.S. Government use

  • by

Despite failing to take the consumer market by storm, Research in Motion’s first tablet device, the Blackberry Playbook, has proved to be a hit with the U.S. government.

RIM were recently able to boast that their tablet device had passed the super strict FIPS 140-2 certification. While that means very little to the average person, we’re told it means the device meets strict U.S. government regulations regarding PC security, meaning they are able to buy and use the Playbook safe in the knowledge that government information and data is safe.

It’s certainly something RIM deserves bragging rights over, especially as their Blackberry smartphones have been favoured highly by U.S. government officials. President Barack Obama has been an advocate of his specially made Blackberry smartphone since coming into office and has frequently spoken of his love for the device.

We can certainly see Mr Obama kicking back in his fancy White House chair, browsing the web and checking emails on his very own (again, probably highly customised) Playbook. He’s lucky he already has a Blackberry smartphone though, as without this he wouldn’t be able to use BBM, Emails, Contacts or the Calendar on his Playbook!
