BBC Sci-Fi Show Doctor Who To Become a Game – “Coming Soon” For Sony Playstation 3 & PS Vita

As buzz for this year’s annual Doctor Who Christmas episode is building sci-fi fans into frenzy, the BBC has given geeks an early gift ahead of the big day’s must watch telly tradition – the news that the popular show will become a game for Playstation 3, PS Vita and PC platforms in 2012.

The Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock game will be developed by casual games co. SuperMassiveGames who’s previous titles include Little Big Planet: Sackboy’s Prehistoric Moves and Tumble, mobile and PC based titles, which don’t really push an boundaries when it comes to generous graphics – the likes of which we deserve from a Doctor Who adventure.

The teaser clip launched today does however feature some attractive graphics. Swirling energy waves and planets feature with the TARDIS – The Doctor’s time and space travelling box – racing towards screen near the end. The graphics look tidy, although it’s left to the imagination as to what the in-game visuals will look like. But the Beeb does promise photo-realism with an aim to deliver an experience close to what avid Who fans get to see on their TV screens. We would presume with the current theme of the telly sensation that the game will follow a space-based puzzle and mystery solving flavour. Expect familiar baddies, such as Daleks and Cybermen – and hopefully an appearance by cyberdog K9.

The Doctor Who game will be the first in a trilogy which will be set in the modern timeline and will feature the voices of Matt Smith as The Doctor himself and Alex Kingston as the mysterious River Song. The Eternity Clock will start ticking in 2012 and the Doctor Who Christmas episode “The Widow & The Wardrobe” will be shown on December 25th on BBC One.
