Apple names its ‘Apps of the Year’ for iPhone and iPad
Continuing its annual tradition, Apple has named its favourite apps from the past year on both iPhone and iPad. The Cupertino company has praised developers for another bumper year as well as naming the top sellers.
Apple reckons that the best iPhone app this year is Airbnb; an app that allows property renters to network and communicate.
The iPad app world has been shaken up this year with the introduction of the iPad Mini, but the winner is an app that started out life on the full sized model. Paper, by FiftyThree, is Apple’s app of the year for iPad, and we’d have to agree. It’s a brilliant app for creative types, allowing users to create beautiful images by drawing and painting using a finger or stylus.
iOS is hugely popular for mobile gamers, and according to Apple, the latest Rayman title is the best around on iPhone right now. Rayman Jungle Run’ picked up the iPhone Game of the Year award, with puzzler The Room scooping the iPad Game of the Year title.
Apple has hailed cross-platform messaging app WhatsApp as the top non-gaming paid app of the year. On the iPad it’s clear that productivity is popular, with Apple’s own Pages app being the top non-gaming paid app.
Unsurprisingly Rovio cleared up with the top-selling gaming app, with the ad-free version of Angry Birds Space taking the crown.
