Apple iPad Mini schematics show thin side bezel

According to schematics released last week, the iPad Mini may go even further than the Nexus 7 and have extremely minimal bezels on the sides of the tablet. Coupled with an ample amount of grip on the rear (although no rubberised finish), that makes a strong case for an iPad that’s equally heftable but much more size-efficient than what we’ve seen in the past.

The 7.85″ tablet has been lovingly rendered by the folks at 9to5Mac in a press-style photograph that could definitely be mistaken for the real thing. The tablet is noticeably wider than the Nexus 7, with a squarer aspect ratio. That’s not a bad thing, as it means you’ll get a lot more screen real estate than the extra 0.85 inches would imply.

We’ve seen quite a few bits and pieces of the iPad Mini over the past few months (even this week we’ve seen a purported 9 pin dock connector for the Mini) so an announcement can’t be too far away – although the rumoured September 12th launch date of the iPhone 5 is unlikely to also contain the iPad Mini. I’d say we’re probably looking at a Christmas release, based on what we know now.

If we get any more information, of course we’ll bring it straight to you – stay tuned!
