Apple confirms new iPads, Macbooks and OS X coming October 22nd

Apple was rumoured to be hosting an event on October 22nd and now it really is. The Cupertino company has started sending out the official invites to a bumper event which will take place a week from today.

In typical Apple fashion, the invite consists of a colourful image and a teasing tagline: “We still have a lot to cover.” With colourful iOS 7-themed Apple leaves flying about it’s all very autumnal and points towards some new iOS gadgets – namely iPads.

So, what can a tech fan expect from the event? Well, we’re likely to see a new iPad and iPad Mini, for starters. The former has been spotted in numerous high quality snaps which have given away its iPad Mini-like redesign. Rumours have also suggested new Cosmic Grey and Champagne Gold colours along with the addition of the fingerprint scanner which debuted in the iPhone 5S.

The iPad Mini 2 is also likely to feature in the new colours, but the main draw will be an upgraded Retina display. This upgrade will bring Apple’s mini tablet in line with the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and MacBook Pro in offering Apple’s trademark high resolution screen. We’re also expecting an upgraded processor in both tablets, amongst other minor upgrades.

Asides from tablet computing, Apple will also formally launch OS X Mavericks, its latest desktop OS for Macs, as a digital download. Accompanying the new software will be a new Mac Pro and new MacBooks.

Tune in next week for our full rundown of Apple’s announcements!
