Acer Announces New Aspire M5 Ultrabooks

[tab name=’News’]

Thinking about upgrading your current laptop? If so, you may want to check out the latest offerings from Acer, as the company has today unveiled its latest line of Ultrabooks – the Aspire M5 series.

According to the announcement, Acer will be offering the new Ultrabook in both 14 and 15-inch models and they will both feature Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors along with NVIDIA graphics.

We have to say we quite like the look of the new Aspire M5 – It would seem that Acer has taken its time with the design and paid attention to the smaller details. The M5 features a display with a much thinner bezel while also having a silver finish for the chassis and soft touch keys for the keyboard, which is also backlit as well for easy use in the dark. Folded shut the whole thing is around 20mm in thickness, and considering that the 15-inch version also features an optical drive, we’d say that’s fairly impressive.

Acer hasn’t said exactly which processors will be used to power the two Ultrabooks, only that it will be the latest Ivy Bridge variants from Intel, which are pretty powerful in all variations. When it comes to graphics performance, this will be dealt with using NVIDIA’s GT 640M with 1GB of RAM.

Acer also says that the “instant on” mode will allow the Ultrabooks to boot in a mere 1.5 seconds from sleep mode. Moving onto the screen resolution, both the 14 and 15-inch version will feature a crisp 1366×768 pixels on the display. Finally, as with the processor, Acer hasn’t been specific about exactly how much storage will be included in either model; however they have assured us it will be an “ample” amount.

If performance is paramount and an SSD (solid state drive) is more up your street, Acer can also accommodate this as an optional extra in the Aspire M5 too.

At the moment there is no information about pricing, but if you think this sounds like an ideal upgrade, Acer say sthat the Aspire M5 will be available in the UK sometime towards the middle of June.
