We’ve got some great news for owners of the Acer Iconia Tab A100 and A101, as the Android 4.0 ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ update has just landed on the diminutive tablet.

Although the update is not due to officially launch just yet, our own A100 has just updated to version 4.0.3. The update only took around 5 minutes to download – and our Wi-Fi is pretty poor – and installed in a couple of minutes after that.

Both the Wi-Fi only A100 and the Wi-Fi and 3G A101 will be receiving the update over the next week or two, but if you’re looking to get updated straight away you’ll need to tell your tablet to manually check for the update. To do this, follow the steps below. It’s worth noting that you don’t have to back up your device before updating, as all data, wallpapers etc remain in the same place.

Tap Settings > Scroll to About Tablet and Tap > Tap System Update > Tap Check Now

Overall the look and feel of the tablet won’t have changed too much from what you’re used to. The settings and main menus have been overhauled with the neat ICS theme, and in the main menu you’ll now be able to swipe from right to left to view a host of widgets that can be added to your homescreens. Asides from the usual Android widgets Acer has added some for its own apps such as Lumiread and SocialJogger.

The camera app has been improved and now offers the ability to shoot beautiful panoramic photos. You’ll also get a few more photo settings such as white balance and exposure.

With multitasking you still have the same icon in the bottom left corner to tap, although now you can close apps easily by simply swiping them left or right. This will help you save battery life and will generally speed up the tablet’s performance.

Have you installed the 4.0.3 update on your tablet? Let us know how you’re getting on with it.
